NEW RELEASE - Danish World music

Description:
Tumult is a unique band with their very own style created by
and made up of a team of talented and skilled young Danish
musicians with different musical backgrounds evolving around
the charismatic violinist and singer Jørgen Dickmeiss. At the
music academy on Funen, Dickmeiss - with solid support from
experienced Danish folk musicians - became absorbed in the
Danish folk music and -ballad tradition. It was the encounter
with these traditions which ultimately led to the idea of
Tumult. The idea of "playing some hip Danish folk music with a
modern sound", as Dickmeiss puts it. In 1999 Tumult was formed
- using as their main source of inspiration Dickmeiss' vast
self-composed and traditional repertoire - and enthusiastically
threw themselves onto the Danish music scene. They were
well-received by their audience and in 2001 their debut CD
"Wallegnav" was released by a small progressive recording
company GO' &65533;Danish Folk Music production. "Wallegnav" was
an immediate success in Denmark as well as internationally,
and Tumult crossed boarders and toured in Sweden, Germany
and Holland. The same year Tumult represented Denmark at the
22nd EBU (European Broadcasting Union) Folk Festival in Kalaka
in Hungary and here their concert was transmitted to millions
of European radio listeners. In 2002 Tumult visited Russia
several times to deliver an ongoing row of compact, sweaty
and energetic gigs to a fully enthusiastic audience on various
scenes in Moscow The same year the band was nominated
for the Danish Music Award (Danish Grammy) as "Danish Folk
Artist of the Year" for the "Wallegnav" CD. Right now Tumult is
ready to release a fresh and complete repertoire: A number of
songs and melodies will very appropriately experience their
&64257; rst performance at the Tønder festival's 30th anniversary in
August 2004, where the CD also will be launched. Yes, Tumult
is a very special Danish band with its very own style and they
have with "Kværn" (grinding mill as used to grind pepper or &64258; our)
recorded a smasher of a CD. Listen to it, play it for your friends
and before you know it the band will be doing a gig close to
your neighbourhood and so see you there!
Morten Alfred Høirup.
Awarded musician, composer and music journalist.

1. I went behind a fence (trad.. DK, lyrics adapted by Jørgen
Dickmeiss).
An old folk song about the art of seduction- and about women'&65533;s
wiles.
2. Allemagasej* (trad.. DK after Peter Uhrbrand)
A sønderhoning with a mad name. It is not known how the name
was derived, but rumours have it that it should be a description
of the body's (stomach's) condition after a thorough "Sønderho"
dancing.
3. The seduced virgin (trad.. DK) / The Morning country (tune
Jørgen Dickmeiss)
In this old ballad you &64257; nd the drama of a virgin who loses her
innocence when she falls in love with a stranger. A hot topic which
is still an issue in many parts of the world today.
4. Diesel schottis* (tune Jørgen Dickmeiss)
Jørgen's old bratsch- which passed by the name "diesel hakkeren"
caught this melody.
5. The Steed (tune Jørgen Dickmeiss)
The melody is a tribute to the kind of eccentrics who dare go it
alone.
6. Malfra (trad.. DK, lyrics adapted by Jørgen Dickmeiss) /
Malfra's piece (tune Jørgen Dickmeiss)
The stupendous ballad is a genuine tradgedy where both lover,
mother and infant meet their death in the end.
7. Crossing the Atlantic* (Jørgen Dickmeiss) Sugarfoot Rag (Hank
Garland)
During the summer &65533;97 a raft called at the Irish west coast
creating a great uproar. The raft had crossed the Atlantic and was
made of material which the captain and his craft (3 dogs) had
found as litter on the American east coast. An impressive deed
which gave inspiration to this melody which is also put together
from bits and pieces. Sugarfoot Ray is nearly synonymous with the
great Nashville guitarist Hank Garland.
8. Falseness in mind (trad. DK) / Hey Fiddleli (trad. DK after Peter
Uhrbrand)
Now I am like a solitary tree standing in the wildest moor. Far away
from any town, from any shelter. Where upon blows an angry storm...
Desertion and unhappy love are the fuel for this ballad with lyrics
worthy of a blues. We have seasoned the song with our favorite
"sønderhoning" Hey Fiddeli.
9. Møller's*(tune Jørgen Dickmeiss)
Dedicated to piano tuner Finn Møller in Aalborg in whose
workshop it was composed.
10. The boys and girls (trad. Swedish tune, lyrics Keld Nørgaard
Kristensen)
A Swedish polska with a splendid text by Keld Nørgaard
Kristensen. Sorry Keld, but we played in 4/4 by mistake!
11. Triple jumper prelude
12. Triple jumper (tune Jørgen Dickmeiss)
A polska heavily inspired by the dark Swedish woods.

All arrangements by Tumult except * Tumult, Thomas
Kristoffersen and Kasper Laursen.
All arrangements have been created collectively - testing the opportunities within the tunes and songs. A very rewarding and demanding process at the same time.
